For those of you who don't know what the Edinburgh Festival is, it is the biggest arts festival in the world which takes place every August in Edinburgh. It is made up of two main festivals, the Edinburgh International Festtival and Edinburgh Fringe Festival and every year the population oof Edinburgh at least double with people here to see all the shows from comedy to dance to poetry, there is always so much going on. Here are just a few of my favourite things about this great time of year!
I love George Square during the festival, it is not used for anything during the rest of the year, but during the festival, it has two tents for shows, bars, food, tables and all sorts of other great things. You can sit here at night and take in all the great atmosphere of the festival, even when it isn't the warmest there are outside heaters to make it barable. It is just so much fun!
Pre-warning, The Royal Mile during the festival is very very busy, but if you can get through all the crowds it is worth it. There are loads of street performers and pop up stages to get a tasters of shows. It is full of a lot of great stuff. I sometimes just take a day to wander round down the Royal Mile, it is well worth a visit
There are so many different things to see during the festival, it is impossible to choose sometimes. I love that you can see great comedy and plays as well as dance shows and operas, there is nothing that you can't really see, it is incredible. I love that there is so much to see, that you will never see the same show twice.
This is hard to explain unless you have been here, but the atmosphere at the festival is like nothing I have ever experienced, it is just incredible.
This is one of my highlights, these fireworks are just amazing! They do mark the end of the festival which is sad, but they are just the best end to the month. The fire works take place around the castle and are set to a live orchestra, it is just breathtaking! They have these waterfall fire works (the picture) which cascade down the castle rock, and they are just stunning! I love it!
That's just a few of my favourite things about the festival. Have you guys been before? If so what is your favourite thing? Let me know.
