Me and Mum Attempt to Cook

Hey Guys!

Me and my mum decided to try our hand at cooking this week, and although it may not be our forte I think we did pretty good and thought I'd share our recipe and results with you!
Mum had been watching Saturday Kitchen last weekend and saw this recipe by Rachel Khoo and really wanted to try it, so we did! It is Crab Tartare with Kiwi.

You will need:
½ lime, zest and juice
80g/3oz chilled crab meat (brown and white meat)
2 ripe kiwi fruit, peeled and cut into small cubes
1 shallot, finely chopped
10cm/4in piece of cucumber, seeds removed, cut into small cubes
salt
4 slices of bread
1 tbsp unsalted soft butter

Now, when my mum went out to buy crab meat I was expecting her to come home with a tin of crab meat, no she came home with this:
Yep, she came home with a live crab which she had got from the fishmongers and that my brother then proceeded to call Charlie all day! I don't feel I need to go into detail, but the crab became crab meat in a matter of hours. I think, next time we make this we will get the tin of crab meat cause it was a lot of hassle getting the meat out of the actual crab.

What you are supposed to do is this:
1. Chop and dice the kiwi, cucumber and shallot and put it to one side.

2. Add half a teaspoon of lime zest to a bowl then flake in the crab meat. Add the kiwi, shallot and cucumber then squeeze over the juice from the lime and toss to coat the ingredients. Taste and season with salt.
3. Toast the bread and cut into triangles. Spread with the butter and arrange the crab tartare on the toast., and that's it!
It was really good, it is really fresh as my mum said, it was a very spring like taste! I really loved it. I am a big crab fan, so it was kind of my ideal dish.

Hope you liked this post, something a bit different from normal. Let me know if you'd be interested in reading similar posts again.
