Valentines Day!

Hey Guys,

So yesterday was Valentines Day, and I may be single but I still attempted to celebrate it, as I think it should be a day to love everyone even more not just a couples day, why should they get all the fun?!

I will be honest, I have never been a huge fan of valentines day, even when I was in a relationship, it just seemed a little pointless. However, I have learnt to embrace it, because if you don't, it is a day that can make you feel a bit down about your single status. That's why I think it is important to make plans for the 'holiday' whether that be with your boyfriend/girlfriend or just a friend. This year I celebrated with Paige, my lovely friend!

Paige, the lovely lady that she is (although she may argue otherwise), offered to make me dinner and all she asked was that I tell her what I wanted. Now, normally when we cook it is a team effort as Paige isn't hugely confident in her cooking ability, so I didn't want to choose something which 1. would take ages to prepare and 2. would be too challenging (I pretty much wanted to pick a meal I knew anyone could cook). I couldn't decide exactly what I wanted as a main so just suggested a pasta dish, but when it came to pudding I knew I wanted fondue, purely because it is amazing!!

Paige decided to make a lovely Martha Stewart pasta dish, called one-pan pasta.
It has, cherry tomatoes, onions, garlic, chilli flakes and basil in it. As I wasn't allowed to help (I was told off when I offered) I didn't see exactly what went on, but it was a lovely simple dish which involves all the ingredients being brought to the boil with the pasta. It means that the pasta soaks up all the flavours of the ingredients and just tastes amazing! Paige realised halfway through cooking that I am not a huge tomato fan (I like tomatoes in sauces, but in terms of the whole 'fruit' I'm not a huge fan) or onion fan, but I figured that they would all kind of soften down so it was almost a sauce in the pan so I wasn't bothered by them. The pasta was so good, I could have eaten like 3 plates of it, it had a nice we spice to it and just was a really simple and nice dish.
We then made our fondue, which I got to help with, I love melting chocolate. We used galaxy chocolate and then had fudge, raspberries and strawberries to dip into it, it was really yummy!!

We also sat an watched Valentines Day, which is such a good movie. For those of you who haven't seen it, it is kind of like Love Actually or New Years Eve. It has a lot of little stories which intertwine nicely, and funnily enough it takes place on Valentines Day. It isn't a soppy romantic movie, it is just very easy to watch and pretty feel-good!

The best part of being single on valentines day is that there are no expectations to buy gifts or to dress up and go out, I sat in my sweats all night and just had a very relaxed evening, it was great!

In short, it doesn't matter if you are deeply in love or single, valentines day can be a really great day to celebrate! I don't see the point in avoiding it, because it is a very in your face day, it is hard to avoid, so make the most of it, even if that means sitting with a best friend watching a crappy rom-com and eating your weight in chocolate, just enjoy it!

How did you guys spend valentines day? Let me know.
